sounds like mellon collie
oh, i forgot to brag that last night i heard a track from the upcoming sufjan album 'illinois' a grand, epic track full of big whispered multi-tracked vocals, many strings and i think i remember piano - very little or no guitar. angelic harmonies closed the thing out - no danielson. ultra hush hush - i was duly impressed and impressions of it sounding 'a lot like mellon collie and the infinite sadness' were made. yaaaay! still no song titles. i am relieved, being only a mild fan of seven swans.

Is it bombastic, though? It's hard for me to seperate MCIS from how over the top it is, musically and lyrically.
ya, I know what you mean, those big, brazen guitars, billy sneering way up front in the mix. i think i might have heard an unmastered mix, but no, no or small guitars, and the melody is diffuse across so many instruments that it's hard to track in your brain as one line - beautiful and complicated. the mellon collie is more about the epic nature of the songwriting, the diversity of types of songs...i still haven't heard the full thing, tho I rather panting...
Ah, okay, that brings my expectations down to earth a bit. But I am now way more interested in that record that I ever would have imagined.
